Mission: Pasadenans Organizing for Progress is a multi-issue community organization whose mission is to make Pasadena a more just, fair, and inclusive city.
POP! grew directly out of the Pasadenans for a Livable Wage (PLW)
movement. Due to the unprecedented coalition of labor, community, religious, and educational sectors, PLW was able to win a unanimous vote in the Pasadena City Council to bring the minimum wage to $15/hour by 2020.
Now, we are working with city officials to ensure proper enforcement. But there’s so much more to do that the coalition went on to raise money to hire a full-time organizer. We are facing the immigrant deportation crisis head-on, working to connect and train people, making sure everyone knows their rights, and become known as a city where immigrants are safe.
Another goal is to connect the several silos of activism that have existed in Pasadena for years or have recently sprung to life: PAHG, Pasadena Affordable Housing Group; CICOPP, Coalition for Increased Civilian Oversight of Pasadena Police; Pasadena Tenants Union ; NDLON, the National Day Laborers Organizing Network, among others doing important work.
This is grass-roots organizing at its finest but it only works with the whole community rising up together: we need bodies, we need minds, we need commitment. We need money to hire more organizers. We need people to engage their City Councilperson. Sign up so we can put you to work! Join the fun, be the change you want to see in the world.
